MICRODERMABRASION

MICRODERMABRASION

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical exfoliating treatment that works to resurface the skin and stimulate collagen production. It may assist in improving skin texture, tone, and the appearance of fine lines, superficial wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and enlarged pores.

All microdermabrasion appointments at Riverina Cosmetic Medicine include low-level LED light therapy.

Blue LED light may assist in addressing acne-causing bacteria. Infrared LED light may support dermal repair and collagen stimulation.

As with any cosmetic procedure, individual results vary. A consultation with one of our practitioners will determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you.

Who is suitable for microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion may be suitable for a range of skin types and concerns including uneven texture, fine lines, superficial wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and enlarged pores. Suitability is assessed during your individual consultation. This treatment is not appropriate for all skin conditions and your practitioner will advise accordingly.

Microdermabrasion may not be appropriate if you have active skin infections, open wounds, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, or severely sensitive skin. Clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should advise their practitioner prior to treatment. A full medical history will be taken at your consultation.

Your practitioner will cleanse the skin before using a handheld device to exfoliate the outer layer of the skin. The treatment is performed in clinic and takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes including your LED light therapy component.

As with any cosmetic procedure, risks exist. Potential side effects include temporary redness, skin sensitivity, mild irritation, and dryness following treatment.  Your practitioner will discuss all risks with you prior to proceeding and answer any questions you have.

Individual treatment plans vary. Your practitioner will make a recommendation based on your skin assessment and goals. Results and the number of treatments required differ from person to person.

Following treatment you should avoid direct sun exposure and apply broad spectrum SPF daily. Avoid harsh skincare products, exfoliants, and heat exposure for a period advised by your practitioner. Your practitioner will provide you with specific aftercare instructions at your appointment.
